DDC Control System Technician

Job description:

Our client, who has been providing clever control and monitoring solutions for mission critical facilities and process for over 20 years is currently seeking to hire a DDC Control System Technician.

Main responsibilities:

  • System design, installation, programming and servicing of computerized controls, predominantly in the HVAC industry.
  • Commissioning responsibilities on small retrofit projects as well as larger new construction installations.
  • Preventative Maintenance inspections and relative system testing.
  • Implementing and developing documentation standards.
  • May involve some travel, but majority of time will be spent in the Montreal area.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be "mechanically" oriented, understand basic electrical theory and be computer literate.
  • Keen understanding of engineering and able to comfortably read mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Education in Building Automation or Mechanical/Electrical systems would be ideal.
  • A good working knowledge of Windows-based computer software (i.e. AutoCAD, Word, Excel) being a definite plus.
  • Fluent with the English and French language.
  • 5 Years of related field experience as a minimum

General Responsibilities:

  1. Primary role is focused on field and office technical services including service and installation project support and customer support.
  2. Designs and configures technically complex building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates single-line diagrams, sequence of operations, and bill of material, network layouts as per project specifications.
  3. Prepares system integration plans, system specification, factory and site acceptance test documents.
  4. Assists with other functional areas on a project bid preparation.
  5. Evaluate third party products and systems and develop adequate knowledge on their system integration capabilities to complete customer projects and or service requirements.
  6. Seeks resolutions on hardware, software or performance related systems issues from vendors and contractors as required to complete projects and service.
  7. Mentors peers and other engineering staff and works well within a team environment.
  8. Responsible for the coordination and layout of electrical subcontractor drawings and documentation necessary for pricing and execution.
  9. Develops and tests software programs necessary to operate the system per the intent of the project requirements.
  10. Assists project manager in resolving any scheduling conflicts as necessary, to achieve delivery requirements.
  11. Provides engineering support to the business for new product development and implementation of projects.
  12. Assists with the development of service and installation strategies to increase our business market share.
  13. Actively participates in the development and implementation of improvement programs within the business.
  14. Actively liaises between the customer and the organization to bring forward new ideas to development and improve our services, product line and customer operations.
  15. Coordinates the creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
  16. Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects. Coordinates factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.
  17. Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
  18. Provides field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
  19. Keeps management and contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
  20. Assists in performing site-specific training for owner/operator on the total building control system.
  21. Participates in release meeting with project field team. Performs value engineering to provide cost effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
  22. Adheres to safety standards. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety. Participates in safety talks during service and installation team meetings.
  23. Take full responsibility as key technical person on project implementation for projects as assigned.
  24. Is a direct customer contact on technical issues, clarifies and seeks customer approval and project technical deliverables.
  25. Defines system components for project work and service and validates engineering requirements.
  26. Oversees assigned projects and directs systems engineering implementation and sub-contractors' assignments.
  27. Reviews factory and assembly drawings related to designed systems and recommend changes when required.
  28. Field tests panels and end use devices and troubleshoots in accordance with the company standard service practice.
  29. Develops DCL code and programming necessary to complete a service task or installation requirement. May be required from time to time to learn other vendor programming for service or installation tasks.
  30. Participate in regularly scheduled performance evaluations.
  31. Be organized and promote good office house keeping of work area and other resource areas.
  32. Always professionally represent the company and its employee?s demonstrating the highest customer service practices and ethical conduct.
  33. Follow company dress code as it relates to nature of customer interaction or primary role. All technicians will be provided uniforms.

Compensation:

This position pays a very competitive salary and benefits package. The starting salary varies dependent upon the experience of the candidate.
